Abraham

Abraham is known for how he trusted God. He was completely sure that God was well able to do anything he promised.  Importantly, he praised God in advance. God will lead you places and improve you in ways you would never be able to do on your own.

Romans 4:20-22 (TLB) 20 But Abraham never doubted. He believed God, for his faith and trust grew ever stronger, and he praised God for this blessing even before it happened. 21 He was completely sure that God was well able to do anything he promised. 22 And because of Abraham’s faith God forgave his sins and declared him “not guilty.”

To Know God, Know Jesus

To know God, know Jesus. Honesty, purpose, strength, grace, forgiveness, and sacrificial love are among the attributes of Jesus. This is what is meant by no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Jesus is the gateway to the knowledge of God and the eternal.

John 14:6 (KJV) 6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Temporal vs. Eternal Issues

A popular topic today is whether eating meat is ethical or the best way to use natural resources. There are various references to eating meat in the Old and New Testaments. They all reflect what is in 1 Corinthians 10:25-26: Food is a temporal issue, not an eternal one.

1 Corinthians 10:25-26 (NIV) 25 Eat anything sold in the meat market without raising questions of conscience, 26 for, “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.”

The only Light Source

The only light source in Noah’s ark was just below the roof and one door in and out. When you are in a storm, go into the ark of your mind and raise your thoughts to God’s light. You will not only come through the storm but other things will improve for you too.

Genesis 6:15-16 (NIV) 15 This is how you are to build it: The ark is to be three hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide and thirty cubits high. 16 Make a roof for it, leaving below the roof an opening one cubit high all around.  Put a door in the side of the ark and make lower, middle and upper decks.

Standing on Holy Ground

How different might your attitude and approach be if you consider you share the very ground you stand on with God?  God says wherever you are, he is. The holiness, awe and power of a great God is right there with you all the time.

Numbers 35:34 (MSG) 34 “Don’t desecrate the land in which you live. I live here, too—I, God, live in the same neighborhood with the People of Israel.”

When you have Enough

Do you ever want more when you really have enough? The people of Joseph wanted more land so they would feel protected. God told them they already had enough land; they needed to develop strength to meet their enemies by working with what he already gave them.

Joshua 17:14-18 (MSG) 14 The people of Joseph spoke to Joshua: “Why did you give us just one allotment, one solitary share? There are a lot of us, and growing—God has extravagantly blessed us.” 15 Joshua responded, “Since there are so many of you, and you find the hill country of Ephraim too confining, climb into the forest and clear ground there for yourselves in the land of the Perizzites and the Rephaim.” 16 But the people of Joseph said, “There’s not enough hill country for us; and the Canaanites who live down in the plain, both those in Beth Shan and its villages and in the Valley of Jezreel, have iron chariots.” 17-18 Joshua said to the family of Joseph (to Ephraim and Manasseh): “Yes, there are a lot of you, and you are very strong. One lot is not enough for you. You also get the hill country. It’s nothing but trees now, but you will clear the land and make it your own from one end to the other. The powerful Canaanites, even with their iron chariots, won’t stand a chance against you.”
