The Lord's Prayer Deconstructed

The Lord’s Prayer

Deconstructed

Matthew 6:9-13 (NIV)

9…”Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,

You are my Father and the Father of all creation.  You are holy and due all

respect and awe.

10  your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Your ways are the proven ways to do things.  My only will is to ask what your Will is and to do it. You communicate your Will to me all day long and I listen for it.

11  Give us today our daily bread.

You provide for me in all things, big and small, physical and mental. I trust you to do this and know that you do.

12  And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

Through your forgiveness, you change my shortcomings into positives. I see each person as redeemed or redeemable just as I am. I let go of all grievances and grudges toward others. I refrain from condemning and unduly criticizing others.

13  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one."

When I forget you are better at being in charge than I am, you remind me and bring me back from my sin. My misunderstandings are corrected. You show me how to resist temptation. You are continually delivering me from all evil.
