I am the Lord your God

God identified himself often as I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery and this is repeated many times in the Old Testament. Repetition in the Bible tells you exactly who and what to remember about the power of God.

Exodus 20:1-2 (NASB) 1 Then God spoke all these words, saying, 2 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

Double-Chained

In prison, double-chained and scheduled to die the next day, the churches prayed for Peter. An angel came, the chains were broken and he was led past the guards to freedom. Any bond or chain - ANY - can be broken with earnest prayer. Pray to walk into your freedom.

Acts 12:5-8 (TLB) 5 But earnest prayer was going up to God from the church for his safety all the time he was in prison. 6 The night before he was to be executed, he was asleep, double-chained between two soldiers with others standing guard before the prison gate, 7 when suddenly there was a light in the cell and an angel of the Lord stood beside Peter! The angel slapped him on the side to awaken him and said, “Quick! Get up!” And the chains fell off his wrists!

In Spirit and in Truth

Much time is spent on matters of church property, music, leaders, etc.  This is good - it is for worshiping God - but the Bible says worshiping God goes beyond a building. God is Spirit. Deeply desire to know the truth and emphasize worshiping God in Spirit and in truth.

John 4:23-24 (NIV) 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

The Love of Money

Everyone needs money for earthly necessities but Jesus said that when you trust the powers of money more than you trust God’s power, money is your point of devotion. You compromise God’s provision when you love and trust money more than you do God.

Matthew 6:24 (NIV) 24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

Fruit of the Spirit

Fruits of the Spirit are evidence of the Holy Spirit working in you. Developing them is a lifework. Know your shortcomings, but consciously center your attention on developing spiritual fruit qualities each day. They are a gift of the Holy Spirit and their own reward.

Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT)  22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

Persistence

Not all things come easily and some things only come with time and effort. Luke 18:2-8 shows you have to be committed to seeking the peace you want. It is inevitable that your prayers will be answered when you persist in faith as the widow did with the judge.

Luke 18:2-8 (MSG) 2-3 “There was once a judge in some city who never gave God a thought and cared nothing for people. A widow in that city kept after him: ‘My rights are being violated. Protect me!’ 4-5 “He never gave her the time of day. But after this went on and on he said to himself, ‘I care nothing what God thinks, even less what people think. But because this widow won’t quit badgering me, I’d better do something and see that she gets justice—otherwise I’m going to end up beaten black-and-blue by her pounding.’” 6-8 Then the Master said, “Do you hear what that judge, corrupt as he is, is saying? So what makes you think God won’t step in and work justice for his chosen people, who continue to cry out for help? Won’t he stick up for them? I assure you, he will. He will not drag his feet. But how much of that kind of persistent faith will the Son of Man find on the earth when he returns?”
